Introduction

Akrilik Kimya Sanayi Anonim Şirketi is a accompany affiliated with the AKKÖK Group of Companies and was established in 1968. AKSA began to produce fiber in 1971 at its factory in Yalova, with a capacity of 5000 tons/year. In 1974 AKSA began to increase its capacity and reached a capacity of 100,000 tons in 1986 , 200,000 tons in 1997 and finally  300,000 tons in 2007. Today our annual production capacity is 308.000 tons. AKSA is the “world's largest acrylic fiber producer under a single roof”.

AKSA has successfully developed its production technology and made many innovations. The company has been working for 40 years without any interruption and provides  100 % of fiber production in Turkey and approximately 11% of worldwide production. AKSA has the world's most developed manufacturing technology and has opened its doors to foreign lands in 1977 with AKSA® Product. The dynamic and contemporary structure of the company is strengthened  with technological investments as the company today is a huge exporter body to  more than 50 countries in the  world. AKSA has a customer portfolio of approximately 300  and has earned the right to be treated as a “worldwide leader” in acrylic production. The company's market share has reached 11.3% at the end of year 2007 . This value was 8.25% in year 2003.

AKSA products can be used in a large range of sectors, as a raw material in textile. Products are dyed and undyed  (eccrue), tow, top and staple fiber ,which can be used alone or  together with cotton, wool, polyester, nylon and other natural and synthetic fibers. The production of AKSA is widely used in the manufacturing of carpets, hand knitting and machine knitting yarns ,  velvet, socks and even canvas (see Figure 0.1). Acrylic fibers have a wool and cotton-like appearance and can be dyed to any color. They are easily washed and are capable to preserve their shape . They are resistant against moths, day light and chemical agents and are dyed to excellent tons of colors and may display a warm and natural look as well. The annual average production capacity of acrylic fiber worldwide is 2.5 million tons.
