SPONSORSHIP FOR 10th. NATIONAL QUALITY CONGRESS
Aksa is one of the main
sponsors for "NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS AND GOOD
GOVERNANCE" conference that is to be held from November
13 to 15, 2001. This conference is to take place within the
program of the 10th annual Quality Congress.
Aksa
was also one of the principal sponsors for EFQM forum organised
as a part of 9th National Quality Congress last year, which
underlined Aksa's ongoing commitment to quality management.
This year's Quality Congress will host a number of prominent
speakers. Mr. Jeremy Rifkin, President and Founder of USA
Economic Trends Foundation and Mrs. Claude Smadia, Chief Consultant
for World Economy Forum will be delivering speeches.

AKSA SUMMER SCHOOL
A
number of free-of-charge classes were organised during summer
break in various handicraft and social fields to the benefit
of local pupils who have successfully completed 5th grade.
176 students from 8 local primary schools were selected by
the Yalova's Educational Board to attend these activities
from 10am to 4pm every weekday.
All activities were organised and carried
out by qualified professional instructors.

AKSA'S SPRING WALK
Aksa's 12th annual spring walk was held in Yalova on 27th
May 2001. 539 peoples participated in this years event, which
has been increasingly gaining on popularity among locals and
people from neighbouring towns over the past few years.
In the ensuing medal seramony that was held at Barıs Manco
open-air theatre Mrs. Asuman Kıratlı, the president of Aksa
Social Club, delivered a speech. Mrs. Kıratlı said that winning
was of secondary importance and emphasised the walk's offering
an opportunity to all participants to strengthen the community
sprit and appreciating nature.

SUPPORT FOR YALOVASPOR FOOTBALL TEAM
Aksa
has decided to provide financial contribution to the local
football club Yalovaspor, which competes in the 3rd national
football league, for the 2001 - 2002 season. The donation
will amount to 80,000 $US.

PICTURE DRAWING AND ESSAY COMPETITONS
The winners of the 5th annual picture drawing and, essay
on cleaner environment have been announced. Miss Nezihe Akbulut
won the prize for the essay contest while Miss Pınar Şahin's
drawing was the winner for picture drawing category. 112 students
competed in the picture drawing category and 144 pupil presented
essays. Winners in both categories were awarded with $US 1,300
cash prize. Second and third places were
rewarded with $US 700 and $US 350 respectively. Consolation
prize of $US 175 was given to 20 students
The purpose of this annually held contest is to encourage
the young generation to develop their skills and, help them
to realise the importance of cleaner and safer
environment.

LECTURES AT AKSA
The
most recent one of the "Aksa Lectures", which have
been carried our since 1993, was held at on June 4, 2001,
at the Raif Dinçkök Congress Hall at the plant site. A large
number prominent local public authorities were also present.
The speaker, Mr. Yalçın Bayer from Hürriyet Newspaper, addressed
two current issues - economic crisis and corruption that has
been prevalent in the society since the foundation of the
republic in 1923. He strived to highlight his diagnosis and
solution to eradicate these long-lasted ills in the society.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Selçuk Ergin, General manager
and Board Member of Aksa, imparted his total agreement with
Mr. Bayer's speech and shared in his wish of better tomorrow.
